Independent Non-Exec Role – Prescription Committee: Architect
Fee: £300 per day (or part thereof), subject to Board approval
ARB was established by an Act of Parliament – the Architects Act 1997 (the “Act”) – and is the statutory regulator of architects in the UK.
ARB’s statutory responsibilities are contained in the Act, and cover six main areas:
- Prescribing the qualifications needed to become an architect in the UK
- Keeping the UK Register of Architects
- Ensuring that architects meet our standards for conduct and practice
- Investigating complaints about an architect’s conduct or competence
- Making sure that only people on our register offer their services as an architect
- Acting as the UK’s competent authority for architects
The Procedures for the Prescription of Qualifications set out the detailed process which the Board undertakes when dealing with the prescription of a qualification for the first time as well as with renewing prescription of existing prescribed qualifications and the annual monitoring process. To facilitate this area of work the Board has established a Prescription Committee. The role of the Committee is to scrutinise and challenge the work undertaken by the Executive to ensure that the material that has been prepared for the Board’s consideration is in line with the Board’s Procedures for the Prescription of Qualifications. The Committee acts in a scrutiny and advisory capacity, and has no executive powers
The Board is looking for four independent non-executive members to join its Prescription Committee; two Architect members from architectural academia and two members with experience of higher education quality assurance and/or other regulatory experience.
Sharing our values and vision you will bring your expertise and experience to help support the Board and Qualifications Department in ensuring that the standards of prescribed qualifications remain appropriate.
Closing date: Monday 23 September 9.30am
Interview dates: Monday, 14 (morning); Tuesday, 15 (morning) and Wednesday, 16 (all day) October 2019 in central London
