Agnes Grunwald-Spier

Agnes Grunwald-Spier was six months old when she and her Mother were liberated from the Budapest Ghetto in January 1945.  Her first degree was in Politics and History and in the 1990s she was awarded an MA in Holocaust Studies.  Agnes has been a magistrate since 1984.  Originally a civil servant dealing with radio frequencies, she has very broad committee experience.  From 1999-2007, she was the Home Office’s nominee on Selection Panels for the South Yorkshire Police Authority and was the first Chair of the Friends of the Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust (2000-2002).  Since 2003, she has been a member of the Conduct and Registration Committees of the General Social Care Council which regulates the Social Work profession.  She is also a Trustee of the national Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.  Agnes has suffered otosclerosis since her 30s and how has severe hearing loss which is alleviated by two hearing aids.  She is a member of Mensa and enjoys collecting porcelain and an eclectic choice of pictures.  Agnes has recently written a book on Holocaust rescuers – “The Other Schindlers” – which is due to be published in June 2010.
