Advisory Group is the forum in which Visitors appointed from both Visitors Panels review ongoing issues.

ARB Reporting Officer is the official employed by ARB who attends Visiting Boards as an observer and collates material for ARB's decision making processes.

ARB refers to the Architects Registration Board.

ARB Visitors Panel are those individuals appointed by ARB to form the Panel from which ARB nominations to Visitors Boards are drawn.

Institution
The host institution referred to in these procedures will normally be a university but it may be an independent institution within the higher education sector.

Preliminary Visiting Board is the Visiting Board attending a particular school in connection with a new course proposal and consists of two members each from the RIBA and the ARB Visitors Panels.

RIBA Validation Co-ordinator is the official employed by the RIBA who attends Visiting Boards as an observer and collates information for the RIBA decision making process.

School
Throughout, the academic unit hosting a course is referred to as "the School". In some cases it may in fact be a department, division or other academic grouping.

Visiting Board Secretary is the secretary to a particular Visiting Board , either the RIBA Validation Co-ordinator or the ARB Reporting Officer, appointed by RIBA and ARB on an alternate basis.

Visiting Board is the group of Visitors attending to report on a particular school.
