Abi Van Hoorebeek is a UK qualified, ARB and RIBA registered, practicing architect, with a background of working for award-winning practices who specialise in sustainable, innovative and beautiful buildings, across a range of architectural sectors. Over the last 15+ years she has worked across a variety of sectors including residential, leisure and education, worked with Historic and Listed buildings and within Conservation areas. She now runs her own small practice where she has designed conversions, extensions, refurbishments and new builds.
Abi maintains teaching links with several UK institutions, and has held teaching posts at the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Leicester School of Architecture where she is currently a Senior Lecturer. Abi’s teaching experience provides a good understanding of current architectural courses and structures. She is a Professional Examiner for Part III courses in a range of UK institutions and in 2017 she will also be an External Examiner for the Nottingham Trent University Undergraduate Architecture, and Professional Certificate in Architecture programmes.
Her publications and research interests range from health care and professional practice to the cultural and anthropological interactions on collectives colonise spaces. She has previously been a Non-Executive Director of RIBA Enterprises.
