My name is Guy Maxwell, a practicing architect who lives and works in Glasgow. Qualifying as a registered architect 1981, I worked in private practice until 1986. With three university friends I then founded an architectural practice which now employs 48 staff and has offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The practice has worked on projects of many types throughout the UK and abroad.
Familiar with the activites of the architectural instututions and governing bodies, I am now keen to use my regional brogue, architectural perspective and experience for the benefit of the profession as a whole. More, I can bring my previous experience of membership of boards in the public and private sector to the ARB table.
I started my architectural career equipped with two pencils, three rotring pens, a rubber, a razor and a roll of tracing paper. We now need computer servers, laptops, software, laser printers plus a pencil and paper. The tools and practices of architecture have changed massively over the years and they will always continue to evolve, as the profession intensifies in complexity and context. What has not changed is my commitment to the profession and strong belief in the valuable role of architects in British society. By being on the board of ARB I hope to support our professions’ contribution to society, representing and advancing the interests of architects and architecture.
My other interests are soldiering (Reserve Forces), sailing, skiing and golf.
