Jagtar Singh

Biography

Jagtar joined the Fire service in 1977 in West Midlands and  retired from the service in October 2006  as Deputy chief Fire Officer in Bedfordshire Fire Service shortly after returning from working with the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).    Jagtar on retirement set up Jagtar Singh Associates Ltd in 2006.  The company quickly established a reputation for delivering high quality training.  HR policy support,   equality and Diversity training, Equality Impact Assessment training. conference, workshop and cutting edge research.  He worked on the Business Case for diversity with the DCLG on retirement and the Cambridge University on the European funded Fireworks ED research project

Jagtar has delivered national training on managing diversity and more generally on equality impacts assessment training and in November 2007 Jagtar  delivered a key note address in Australia on equality and he has also been asked to be a  key note speaker in the USA on several occasion whilst working in the fire service

In July 2006  Jagtar  was selected to be a Non-executive Director for the East of England Ambulance Service and and then in 2009  he moved on to be a Non Executive director of Luton and Dunstable Hospital.  He completed this role in December 2014.

Jagtar  took up the role of Chair of Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership trust in September 2014 and the role of Independent chair of Bedford Police audit and finance in 2013 and was reappointed for four years in December of 2016. Also in 2016 Jagtar was appointed by the Privy council as independent member of the Architects Registration Board

Key Milestones

·         Set up the very first equality department in the UK fire service in 1985
·         Was the first National Diversity Advisor for the fire service working at DCLG 2004 to 2006
·         Founder member of AFSA and B&EMM
·         Jagtar  the first black officer to be appointed to the rank of deputy chief fire officer in 2001 and then to acting chief fire officer in the same year
·         Was awarded the OBE for  services to diversity
·         Awarded Man of the year by Lloyds bank  Asian achievement awards in 2003
·         Awarded breaking through Glass ceiling award by GG2 in 2005
·         Awarded Most influential BME NHs leaders award 2014
·         Awarded NHS leadership award 2016
