ARB Welcomes New Members to the Board (28/03/2003)

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) has today announced the appointment by the Privy Council of three new lay members to the Board. Richard Henchley, Nirmala Rao and Michael Starling will each serve a three-year term of office, commencing on 1 April 2003. They replace Keith Richards, Barbara Saunders and Colin Smith.

Richard Henchley is a solicitor and a member of the Law Society Council, of which he is a previous Treasurer. His career has been in commerce and industry, working for Rolls-Royce and Blue Circle. Mr Henchley’s great interest is in urban regeneration, and he is chair of the largest housing association in East London and Essex.

Nirmala Rao is Professor of Politics at Goldsmiths College. She has held research posts at the Policy Studies Institute, and at the University of London. She has written extensively on local government, and on public policy and administration. Professor Rao serves as a lay member on the Bar Council, and is a Trustee of the Learning from Experience Trust.

Michael Starling is Head of Planning Resources in the Faculty of Art & Design at Manchester Metropolitan University.
