ARB's Powers and Duties (10/10/2003)
At its meeting on 25 September 2003, the Board considered and discussed extensively matters raised in relation to its powers and duties. The outcome of this discussion was that the Board agreed it does have the powers and duties it is currently exercising, and in particular it has the power to:
1. Include Standard 8 (on Professional Indemnity Insurance) in the Code of Conduct
2. Issue Guidelines as to what might be considered adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance under Standard 8
3. Require an architect to confirm that he or she has Professional Indemnity Insurance that meets the Guidelines
4. Include Standard 10.1 in the Code of Conduct (that architects should conduct their professional work in accordance with the Code and, subject to any restrictions imposed by law or the courts, report to the Registrar any serious breach of the Code which may come to their notice)
5. Prescribe a qualification under Section 4(1)(a) of the Architects Act 1997 in accordance with the Board’s General Rules and Procedures for Validation 2000
6. Make the duration of a prescription of a qualification subject to conditions
7. Decide that the Registrar may admit a candidate to the Register provided that in the opinion of a panel of assessors that candidate meets the Board’s criteria.
The Board will in due course issue a further statement detailing the reasons for the above.
