Successful Prosecution for ARB (17/05/2004)
On 14 April 2004, Martin Stent of 178 White Lion Road, Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, was found guilty by Central Buckinghamshire Magistrates on two counts of breaching Section 20 of the Architects Act 1997.
Mr Stent had pleaded guilty to the charges, and having heard the evidence, the Magistrates imposed a fine of £100 on each of the two counts, and further ordered Mr Stent to pay £293.75 in costs.
The case had been referred to ARB by Hertfordshire Trading Standards.
Commenting after the case, ARB’s Regulation Department said:
“The level of costs is a little disappointing, but we have secured yet another successful outcome in the courts. Title abuse is damaging both to the public and to the profession, and we are committed to rooting out those who seek to mislead consumers and undermine the integrity of the profession by unlawfully using the title “architect”.
