Vacancy for a Board Member on the Architects Registration Board (15/08/2005)
The Architects Registration Board (ARB) is a statutory public corporation which was established by the Architects Act 1997. It is the statutory regulator of architects in the UK, and is responsible for keeping an up-to-date Register of all architects.
The Board:
- promotes good standards both in the education of architects and in professional practice;
- provides consumers with an efficient, accessible service in cases of complaint;
- investigates and prosecutes any unregistered individuals in business or practice who unlawfully call themselves an architect.
Applications are invited from anyone who has the appropriate knowledge and experience to contribute meaningfully to the Board’s work.
Applicants must possess integrity, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to work with others to develop consensus. They need to be able to read and interpret complex information. In addition, an interest in the planning, design and use of buildings and experience in service improvement would be desirable.
Applications would be particularly welcome from people with a good understanding of one or more of the following areas: consumer affairs, the property market or architectural procurement.
Appointments will be for three years. The total time commitment to formal meetings does not normally exceed 20 working days per annum. Some time will need to be spent reading agendas and reports. A daily fee of £250 and reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be paid for attendance at meetings.
