Successful Prosecution for ARB (20/10/2005)
On 13 October at Staines Magistrates Court, Kevin John Turner of Kevin J Turner Associates, was found guilty of a breach of Section 20 of the Architects Act.
Mr Turner pleaded guilty to the offence. The Bench took a strong line and, despite mitigation by Mr Turner, fined him £1,000. He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £1,500. The sums are all payable within 14 days.
Commenting after the hearing, ARB’s Regulation Department said that the level of fine was considerably higher than in recent title abuse cases, and reflected the seriousness of the offence. They added that they hoped it would act as a deterrent to others who may be using the title unlawfully.

Notes
1. ARB is not responsible for setting the levels of fines or costs; this is a matter entirely for the magistrates.
2. Moneys raised from fines are paid to HM Treasury, not to ARB
