UK to Participate in ACE (22/12/2000)

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) have today announced their decision to join the Architects Council of Europe (ACE).

ACE is a representative body for the architectural profession in the European Union. Its membership is drawn from national registration bodies, which in the UK is the role of the Architects Registration Board, and professional architectural organisations such as the RIBA.

ARB and RIBA intend to work together on ACE business to ensure that the profession in the United Kingdom is able to contribute effectively to the European development of key issues and to draw maximum benefit from the organisation.

ACE task forces deal with issues of importance to architects and their regulators throughout Europe. ARB and RIBA will be meeting in early 2001 to decide how both organisations can best be represented on these groups. ARB will take part in those task forces concerned with its core regulatory activities under the Architects Act 1997. RIBA will engage in a wider range of task forces, many of which align with the work that RIBA is already championing in the United Kingdom.
