Written Contracts for Architects' Services (05/02/2001)

Following the meeting of the Professional Conduct Committee on 24 January 2001, at which Stephen Geoffrey John Liney was found guilty of Unacceptable Professional Conduct, the Chairman of the Committee has issued the following statement:

"It is of importance to architects, in their own interests as well as the interests of their client, to set out clearly in writing at the outset, the services that they are to provide and the fees that they are to receive in compensation, and to monitor and amend, as necessary, if the agreement changes significantly during the course of the project. This is not only a requirement of the Code, but also good practice."

Breaches of Standard 4 of the Code of Conduct may amount to Unacceptable Professional Conduct.

A full transcript of the Chairman's judgment is available.
