ARB Welcomes New Board Members (28/06/2001)

The Architects Registration Board (ARB) has today announced the appointment of two new lay Board members, His Honour Judge Humphrey Lloyd and Alan Crane, who will each serve for a period of three years.

The Architects Registration Board is the independent regulatory body for the architects'profession created by the Architects Act 1997. The Board is constituted of fifteen members, seven of whom are architects elected by the profession, whilst the lay majority comprises eminent individuals appointed by the Privy Council. Judge Lloyd and Mr Crane replace Connie Higgins and Margaret Street, who step down at the end of their three-year term.

At its recent meeting, the Board elected unopposed both Dr Barbara Kelly CBE DL to the Chair, and Owen Luder CBE as her Deputy, for a further period in office of one year.

Barbara Kelly, in welcoming the new appointees, said:

"We are delighted that the Privy Council have selected two such distinguished individuals to augment the experience and expertise of the Board. We are particularly pleased that both bring with them a wealth of understanding of the construction industry and related fields - this is a crucial area for the Board as it moves forward with its dual mandate of protecting the consumer and safeguarding the reputation of architects."

Humphrey John Lloyd QC (BA(Mod), LLB, MA) has been a judge in the Technology and Construction Court of the High Court since 1998.

Alan Thomas Crane (FCIOB, FFB, FIM, MinstD, FRSA, MWCC) is Chairman of the Movement for Innovation Board and Chairman of the Construction Federation. He is also a former Managing Director of Christiani & Neilsen Ltd.
