Independent advisers

ARB’s Prescription Committee has established a pool of independent advisers from whom it can seek advice on specialist areas of work. Advisers are independent and impartial.  No adviser is asked to advise where there is a conflict of interest or where such a conflict might arise, and they must observe confidentiality at all times.  Advisers can serve for a maximum term of five years, and continued appointment is on an annual basis.

Dyfed Griffiths is a registered architect, Teaching Fellow and lecturer in architectural studies, and Director of Studies of the RIBA Part 3 post-graduate certificate in professional practice at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, University of Bath.  He is currently a visiting critic to the Welsh School of Architecture, the University of Cardiff and the Technical University Munich, and visiting fellow to the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and Taliesin West, Scottsdale, Arizona, and at Spring Green, Wisconsin.  He is a professional examiner to the RIBA Part 3 professional practice courses at the Welsh School of Architecture, the University of Cardiff, Oxford Brookes University, the RIBA North West Region, the University of Westminster and the Bartlett, University College London, and is a member of the RIBA validation panel.  He remains actively involved in practice in Devon.

Kate Baker is a registered architect, who has experience in running her own practice and teaching architecture.  She began teaching at the University of Cambridge, and is currently a principal lecturer at the University of Portsmouth.  She is an active researcher in the relationship between architecture and landscape.

Mike Grant is an academic with a background in building services engineering.  He has twenty years’ experience of teaching and research at the University of Strathclyde where he is currently Head of the Department of Architecture. 

Dr Richard Patterson is a registered architect with experience in practice, teaching and research in the UK and the United States.  His practice experience includes large-scale commercial projects, along with residential and urban redevelopment in London’s Docklands.  His own practice was concerned with the restoration and refurbishment of 17th to 19th century buildings.  He is currently Academic Programme Leader for Architecture at the University of Brighton.
